Virtual Storage for Virtual Server Environments

Getting the most out of your virtualized server environment requires end to end virtualization including your storage.  iStor's true block virtual storage provides seamless virtualization from your servers to your storage for all of your applications.  This feature can be very useful for environments with a mix of database (e.g. SQL, Exchange) and file storage.  In other arrays you are forced to either configure the entire drive chassis with one raid type or split the drives into smaller pools (RAID sets) which then creates islands of storage, thereby increasing complexity, reducing utilization and often reducing performance by limiting spindle count for certain RAID sets.  The ability to have multiple RAID types on the same spindles increases flexibility and ensures performance even under greatly varying disk I/O. Server Virtualization

Unmatched Performance for Server Virtualization

iStor's iSCSI storage arrays are second to none when it comes to performance for your virtualized server environments.  Controller solutions are available in 4x1GbE, 8x1GbE or 10GbE iSCSI host port configurations. Our purpose built iSCSI Storage Engine delivers both high IOPS for transaction intensive applications as well as 10GbE sustained bandwidth for bandwidth intensive applications.

  • High port count for support of multiple servers and multi-pathing
  • Team ports without denying bandwidth to other servers
  • Industry leading bandwidth minimizes contention for resources
    • 890 MB/Sec 8x1GbE host port configuration
    • 1160 MB/Sec 10GbE host port configuration
  • High IOPS supports transaction intensive applications
  • Increases virtual machine performance by utilizing maximum spindle count for all applications
  • Typically takes 2-3 competitive controllers to match performance

Ease of Use

iStor's Virtual storage  simplifies complex configurations such as allocating storage, load balancing, and configuring RAID. The physical disks and complex underpinnings of the storage network are concealed from administrators and servers.  Disk space is presented to the operating system as a shared pool that appears to be a normal disk or partition. With a layer of abstraction between storage and hosts, administrators are no longer bound to the physical dimensions of a disk or forced through complex steps to perform basic storage management tasks. Not only does it improve efficiency and productivity, it reduces the time, effort, and knowledge needed to manage storage.

  • Permits tuning quality of service for each application by establishing RAID characteristics on a volume-by-volume, not a disk-by-disk, basis
  • Simplifies capacity planning; no need to manage the physical-to-logical mapping of storage using ad hoc techniques
  • Create new volumes in minutes
  • Grow volumes on-the-fly
  • Migrate RAID applications on-the-fly
